Chair Caning

Pat Long
Barnwell, SC
Pat learned to cane from Ms. Izzy.  She was at a tractor show
with her husband and had nothing to do.  She sat down under
a tent to wait and started watching an older woman cane a
chair.  Finally Ms. Izzy asked her if she wanted to try it and she
did.  When Ms. Izzy finished the chair, she turned it over to sign
it and told Pat to sign it also, since she had helped make it.
The idea of having her name on something so uniquely made
gave her such a thrill, that she went home and starting caning
her own.  (With a little more help from Ms. Izzy)
Pat also taught herself to make baskets!
