| Baskets Jack & Hazel Cook Barnwell, SC The Cooks have been making baskets for over 50 years. Jack was taught long ago by his family members and then passed on the craft to his wife. Hazel tells how Jack would cut his own oak splints and soak them in their one & only bath tub. She jokingly admits that she had to learn how to make baskets if she ever wanted to reclaim her tub for bathing. They use white oak as well as other materials to weave their baskets. Chair Caning Pat Long Barnwell, SC Pat learned to cane from Ms. Izzy. She was at a tractor show with her husband and had nothing to do. She sat down under a tent to wait and started watching an older woman cane a chair. Finally Ms. Izzy asked her if she wanted to try it and she did. When Ms. Izzy finished the chair, she turned it over to sign it and told Pat to sign it also, since she had helped make it. The idea of having her name on something so uniquely made gave her such a thrill, that she went home and starting caning her own. (With a little more help from Ms. Izzy) Cooking Cook Books: Allendale County Tricentennial Cook Book This recipe book is full of old time favorites compiled by many distinguished women on Allendale County. The cookbook is filled with silhouette illustrations by the late Care Rice. Kaufman Sisters Recipes Rosie Mast Cookbooks & Canning Blackville, SC Rosie is a member of the Mennonite Community. She likes to get together with her three sisters and have a week of relaxing, sharing, caring, and lots of fun. When they get together, they each take a turn and cook a meal. It seems they were always sharing recipes and jotting them down. The last time they were together, they had a bright idea - why not put these recipes in a book and share them without families and friends? The rest is history Phil and the French Country Inn Cook Book and The French Captured completely Cree Forman www.thefrenchcountryinn.com Cree remembers playing under the quilt frame at the church while her mother quilted with the other ladies. She has always liked to create things with her hands. She taught herself how to crochet. As a writer and crocheter, she says she is a perfectionist. Cree became a writer at the age of 69. Food Products: Ray Campbell Bee Keeper Ulmer, SC Ray is a USC graduate and is retired from the Auto Parts business. He has lived in Allendale County for two years now. Ray has only been making honey for one year. He was taught by the Aiken County Bee Keepers Association. He starts out by smoking the bees, which calms them down and then he uses an extractor to get the honey out of the frame. Etching Allen Black Barnwell, SC Allen is a self-taught artist. He uses a computer and a sandblaster. He has etched on stainless steel, granite, chrome, mirror, and glass. He has won the Clariant Blue Ribbon for some of his work. His most popular work is glasses with names on them for weddings. He likes to practice the art of juggling in his spare time. Fiber Arts Gwendolyn Amstutz Craftsmen Olar, SC Gwendolyn was taught to sew at a very young age by her mother. She says it was part of her growing up process. Her grandmother lived to be 102, and was an avid quilter. Gwendolyn is a member of the Mennonite Community and takes care to do an excellent job on all items she makes. The proceeds are going to fund international adoptions. The fate of all parentless children is something dear to her heart. Karla Barricklow Spinner Allendale, SC Karla was raised in the mid-west and moved to Alaska, where she lived for 19 years. She was taught to knit by her mother when she was seven. In 1986 she took a weaving class. From there, her friends encouraged her to spin her own yarn. She spins cotton, silk, wool, angora, and has even spun dog hair. She says there is not a big market for dog hair yarn. She prefers to raise rabbits because they are easier than sheep. She spins, weaves, dyes, and knits all her own yarn. Cree Forman Crocheter, Author ( Please read bio under Cookbooks) Phylis Thomas Herring Felting & Stained Glass (Please read boo under Glass) Karen Hope Fiber Arts Hampton, SC Karen's mom taught 4-H and she made her learn how to sew when she was 8. At the time she did not like sewing, but later learned to love it. Karen designs her clothing to be reversible to allow for more versatility. Karen was raised in Hampton County and attended USC-Salkehatchie. She went on to get her degree in Pharmacy and now resides in Goose Creek with her husband and son. Peggy Johnson Embroiderer Fairfax, SC Peggy loves to be creative with her embroidery. She started out sewing long ago when her husband was in college and money was short. When her daughter was born, she made her clothes. Then, when her grand daughter was born, she started to embroider. Peggy bought an embroider machine and started teaching herself by trial and error. Peggy liked to incorporate her own designs. She also liked to draw and dabble in acrylic painting. Esther Manuel Quilter, Crocheter, Soap Maker (Please read bio under soap maker) Fairfax, SC Cora Smith Fiber Arts Allendale, SC Cora learned to sew from her mother and through years of working as a seamstress. She was inspired to make her braided crowns from the ladies at church. She says that her talent is a gift from God. Cora puts a lot of love into her work and creates each one as a unique inspiration. Dwydella Walker Crocheter Barnwell,SC Dwydella has been crocheting since she was 12. She was taught by her mother and her grandmother. She says she never leaves home without her bag. You never know when you will have a free moment to work a few stitches. Crocheting is a great stress reliever and she tries to pass on her trade to anyone who is interested. Ernie Stevenson Crocheter Allendale,SC Jean Ferguson Embroidery Ulmer, SC Florist Faye Cochran Allendale, SC Faye feels that hands on is the best teacher of all and she tries to make things that she would want. She has been arranging flowers for over 40 years. Faye has taken several floral design courses. She has also branched out to jewelery making. Many of his paintings depict the rich heritage and culture of the Low Country and the Sea Islands. Saint's visual stories tell tales of work, humor and adventure. He primarily paints with acrylics on many surfaces, including canvas, paper, clapboard, Masonite, wood and even newspaper. James learned to paint through a mail-order class while he was in school at Howard University. He also studied law at Seton Hall. Saint's works hang in private collections nationwide. He has been interest in art from a very young age. When he returned from a tour of duty in the US Army, he married and became a pastor. He continued his artistic efforts, by capturing his life experiences and philosophical beliefs through his work. Johnny likes to use bright colors and works with pine and driftwood. He also uses wood burning techniques in his paintings. He is a Gullah artist in the true sense of the word. Jeanette Weismann Acrylic Painter Barnwell, SC Jeanette was born in New York. She moved to Myrtle Beach in the 70's. After she retired, she moved to Barnwell, SC, for a little peace and quiet. Jeanette has been painting for over 30 years. She is self-taught, but has taken some classes and learned some techniques from books that were given to her because they were written in German. Since she is of German descent, she is particularly interested in Folk Art. This type of painting derives from the Nobility. They had very ornately carved wood furniture that the peasants could not afford. So they created reproductions with paint. Glass Phylis Thomas Herring Stained Glass, Painter, Felter Bamberg, SC Phylis began painting in 1980 as a form of relaxation. Her desire to bring life to a blank canvas has become a lifelong passion. Campbell Frost was the artist who most influenced Phylis in her painting. Several years ago Phylis took a stained glass course and has been hooked ever since. Phylis is a member of the Arts Council of Bamberg County and was just elected to serve as treasurer. Sycamore,SC Ironworks Mike Black Bamberg,SC Mike is also known as "Black Shadow" for his Black Shadow Deer Stands. Most of his designs were originally cut freehanded. Now computerized machinery speeds the process. Mike decided to create signs that would become recognized as his own work. His goal is to make products that will last many years. Products that become treasures to keep and pass on to very dear loved ones. In addition to the deer stands he makes a variety of wrought iron , such as shepherd's hooks, napkin holders, address and mailbox signs. Jewelry Faye Cochran Allendale, SC (See Bio.above) Kathie Bauer Lilburn, GA Creativity came from both sides of Kathie's family, starting back in the early 1900's. Her grandfather made baskets from oak trees that he had split himself. Her grandmother and mother taught her how to sew, embroider, and crochet. Making jewelry was just an extension of those early age crafts. Kathie is a self-taught artist, with many hours of iinternet research, reading books, watching videos, and asking lots of questions. Her trademark item is her "Prayer Bracelet". She also enjoys sewing, cake decorating, and embroidery. "We are only limited by the scope of our imagination". Lee Sauls Allendale, SC Nora Smith Williston, SC Nora came across her craft quite by accident. She was wearing a bracelet she had made and her co-workers liked it so much that they asked her to make them one. Needless to say, something she thought of as a hobby became an obsession. Nora uses a lot of imagination, and her inspiration comes from the people who love her work. She calls her work "Wearable Art". She uses genuine Swarovski crystals and sterling silver. Nora is a full time Certified Pharmacy Technician at Bamberg County Hospital. Guy Suter Barnwell, SC Guy has been making detailed wire wrapped jewelry since 1998. He attended jewelery school in Selma, Alabama where he completed courses in gemology, jewelry repair, casting and diamond setting. Guy uses precious gemstones and natural materials. His jewelry is encased in sterling silver and 14K gold-filled wire. He creates his own designs and will create custom jewelry upon request. Knives Dan Cannady Allendale,SC Dan Cannady was employed with Westinghouse in Hampton when he saw a book on "How to Make Handmade Knives". He decided to give knife making a try and has succeeded beyond his expectations. He has completed over 3745 knives. Mr. Cannady has found knife making to be a continuing learning experience. He makes a wide variety of hunting and fishing knives. He also makes kitchen cutlery and a few folding knives. Wayne Hendrix www.hendrixknives.com Allendale, SC All of Mr. Hendrix's knives are made by the stock removal method. The blades are hollow ground thin to facilitate easy sharpening. They have full tapered tangs to cut down on weight and to give the knife a more desirable appearance. All guards are made of stainless steel. Marquetry Christie West aikenartistguild.org Denmark, SC Christie grew up spending his summers on the Edisto River. His fascination with fairies and the little people has grown after finding out he was from Scottish and Welsh descent. He has been a furniture maker for 30 years, which led to the art of marquetry. Christie is mostly self-taught, but did take a course at John C. Campbell Folk School in Brasstown, NC. Christie has won several awards in many juried shows. He belongs to the Aiken Artist Guild and Salkehatchie Arts Center Miniatures Sondra Knight Barnwell, SC For Sondra, the creative juices started flowing at the tender age of four, when she made her first dolly bib. Sondra comes from a family of creativity, from carpenters to a Grandmother and Mother who sewed everything from clothing to furniture. As a young girl, Sondra started making miniature doll houses and furniture from old scraps of wood. She is multi-talented: sewing, making teddy bears, trompe l' oeil on furniture, sculpting and building small pieces of furniture. Painting .Floyd Bodiford Acrylic Painter Bamberg,SC Floyd began his art career in the first grade. He had to draw an elephant. The praise he received from his teacher sparked his interest in art from then on. In his high school years, he did pencil sketches and portraits of his classmates. In the year 2000, Floyd entered a contest to paint a NASCAR, which he painted on the side of NAPA store. This painting created quite a bit of interest from the town and encouraged him to take up his painting once again. You can see the simplistic natural scenery in his pictures, such as "Little River" and "Tranquility at Punta Cana". Monikue Cooper Acrylic Painter Furman, SC The first spanking I can remember was due to finding some paint open next to a bowl of plastic fruit, so I decided that oranges should be multi-colored. I was given paint by number sets as a child, and I would save all the left over paint and create my own pictures. Paint, the brighter the better, makes me happy. I also enjoy spending time with my husband, children, and grandchild. "Lots of things will capture your eye - do what captures your heart". Helen "Ladybyrd" Byrd Glass Painter Round-O, SC At the age of 60, Ladybyrd started on a new journey in life. While watching Donna Dewberry on TV, she was inspired to try her hand at painting. She traveled to Atlanta, Ga. where she took a seminar given by Dewberry and became a certified "one stroke" teacher. Flowers are her favorite subject to capture using the "one stroke" method. Ladybyrd paints on a variety of objects such as windows, goblets, plates, mail boxes, flower pots, salt shakers and glasses. Michael Farmer Air Brush Painter Barnwell, SC Michael was born and raised in the northwest mountains of Virginia and North Carolina. Surrounded by the beauty of nature and inspired by God's creations, he has always been observant to the smallest details. After retiring from his chosen profession as a Respiratory Therapist he relocated to Barnwell. He has dedicated his time and talents since relocating by volunteering for the Animal Advocates and assisting at the Pick of the Litter thrift store. A percentage of his commissioned work is donated to the Animal Advocates. Elsie Lewis Fogle Orangeburg, SC Elsie has been painting for over 40 years. She attended Savannah School of Art & Design. She learned a lot of techniques from various artists, including Zita Melon. Elsie feels that the most important effect of her pictures is the emotion one feels while viewing them, and hopes they make people feel happy. Jim Harrison www.jimharrison.com Acrylic Painter Denmark, SC Jim is well known for his rural Americana scenes and his extensive work with the Coca-Cola Company. Jim is at his best in taking the varied images of his beloved South Carolina and turning them into pictures that are constant reminders of his state. Harrison's home and gallery are located in the center of the state in tiny Denmark, SC. Tara Keel Mixed Media Kline, SC Tara is a life-long resident of Kline. She is a self-taught artist in the medium of pastels. Tara enjoys painting wildlife and scenes that depict the orderly and tranquil aspects of nature. Tara is also a pianist and Christian vocalist. Rebecca Kowalewski Acrylic Painter Estill,SC Rebecca was born in Fort Wayne, Indiana. She has been living in SC for 45 years. When she was in her twenties she started wood burning with her mother. In 1991 , she started painting. She is a self-taught artist. Rebecca learned a lot about painting from books and watching PBS. She found out you never know if you can do something until you try and you never stop learning. She is still learning and enjoying every minute! Pamela Leoniak Acrylic Painter Barnwell, SC Pamela graduated from Millersville University where she majored in fine arts. Ever since childhood, she has enjoyed drawing and painting. In college she had several professors who stressed creativity rather than technique. Pamela gets her inspiration from her enviroment. Barbara Lindsley Acrylic Painter Hampton,SC Barbara was nine years old when she first found her love for painting. As a child she would go to Kitty Hawk, NC for vacation. Willie B. Addison, the owner of the cottage she stayed in, was an artist. Barbara was inspired and encouraged by her. They would go to the sawmill and get masonite boards to paint on. She first started with oils and now she has added acrylics. Barbara paints on canvas and wood. Carol Maxwell Decorative Painting Bamberg, SC Carol is a true southerner. She was born and raised in Bamberg, SC. She has never wanted to live anywhere else. There is no place like home. Carol has been painting for 25 years. She is also a teacher and teaches Science education. Carol likes to spend her vacations on the beach with her husband and two sons. She is an avid reader. He is a self-taught painter and has been painting for many years. Music is another form of art that Roger likes to use. Mrs. Padgett is past-president of the Aiken Artist Guild. Joanne Phillips Acrylic painter Hampton, SC Joanne was born and raised in Fairfax, SC. She has been painting for five years. She began with art lessons in Walterboro, SC. Joanne has always wanted to paint since she was a little girl, but did not have the opportunity to take lessons until she was older. She loves painting and detail work. Jeannie Sineath Acrylic Painter Islandton, SC Jeannie was born on a farm in Walterboro, SC. Living in a rural setting for so many years has given her inspiration for her artwork today. She has only been painting since 2003, but has been crafting for about 30 years. She is accomplished in creating floral arrangements and making decorative wreaths. Some of her favorite crafts are made from receyled itmes such as used light bulbs, old bottles, and scraps of various materials. Her latest passion is gourd painting and crafting. Her motto: Try it, even if you think it's impossible. You may be pleasantly surprised. Jerry Spicer Mixed Media Ruffin, SC Jerry grew up in Hendersonville, NC. He started drawing in grade school and was greatly encouraged by his teacher. In high school Jerry studied art history and the different styles of painting. Jerry joined the navy after graduation, so he could have a life of travel and adventure. After retiring, he began painting again. He starts his process by sketching an idea on paper. Once the concept has been conceived in color and dimension, he repeats the process on canvas. Jerry would like to share his vision of life's observations and memories through his artwork. Barbara Still Acrylic Painter Barnwell,SC Barbara is a self-taught artist since 1978. She has done various types of art,but finds that she likes canvas and wood best. She was born in West Virginia and moved to SC 23 years ago. Barbara couldn't ask for a better canvas than South Carolina. She loves painting the mountains as well as the beaches. Eddie Sutton www.southcarolinawarbirds.com Acrylic painter Williston,SC Eddie grew up on a dairy farm in NC. He joined the military and traveled to more than 42 different countries. He married his high school sweetheart and started taking a serious interest in his painting. He was encouraged by Jim Harrison. He is a self-taught artist and has a small studio behind his home. Eddie teaches art twice a week. He has two sons, two stepsons and five grandchildren. He admits that whenever someone hangs one of his paintings in their home, they are honoring him in a very special way. Carole Lawson Timmerman Painter Irmo, SC Carole has been painting for over 33 years. She took her first painting class when she was nine. After she graduated from high school, she wanted to go to art school, but her Dad didn't think that was practical. When Carole's youngest child started kindergarten, she took watercolor classes at the local recreation center. She has taken several work shops since then. Carole is a member of "Seven Oaks Art Guild" and South Carolina Watermedia Society". Betty Sandifer Wetzel Painter Bamberg,SC Betty was born and raised in Denmark, SC. In exchange for piano lessons, she was taught how to paint from her neighbor in 1968. Oil painting is her favorite medium, with watercolors her second. Betty also is skilled in the almost lost art of dried pressed flowers. She is a member of the Orangeburg League of Arts. Anna Barnwell Williams Water Color and Acrylic painter Blackville,SC Anna has been painting professionally since 1978. Her paintings portray realism, and she particularly enjoys painting South Carolina beach scenes and marshes. Her work has been exhibited in several places, including the State Museum and the State House. She was also selected to participate in the Artist in Residence Program sponsored by the SC State Parks. He realized he had a gift for drawing and began to study every art medium. The result has been many beautiful portraits and landscapes in graphite,oil and pastel. Maxine Tuten Acrylic painter Varnville,SC Photography Jennifer Bowers Hilda, SC Over the years Jennifer has had many careers including working for the National Park Service, camp counselor, file clerk, archery instructor,cake decorator, professional scout, United Way director and teacher. After leaving the US Navy in 1991, Jennifer moved to Hilda, SC where she spends her time taking care of her family and working with her photography Christin Holiday Allendale, SC Chrissy began taking photos while working at her hometown newspaper in North Carolina. She moved to SC in 2000. She became fascinated with the ability to tell a story with photographs. She has earned several photography awards for her photos. Her preferred subjects are those that showcase the beauty of the South Carolina Low country. Chrissy loves the contrast and simple beauty of black and white photography, though much of her work is in color because she also has deep appreciation for the vivid colors and shadows of nature. Jerry Morris Photographer, Mixed Media Barnwell, SC Jerry is a retired Arts and Humanities educator. He taught for thirty six years and finds it difficult to focus on himself for a change. Color and composition are foremost in his mind as he looks through his viewfinder. He shoots subjects that speak to him, and if someone wishes to purchase one of his images - fine. However, he doesn't do it for them,; he does it for his own pleasure. Michael Roberts Hampton, SC Michael is a native of Columbia, SC and now resides in Hampton. He was captivated by the slow and easy life and the charming hospitality of the small town. Michael is a self-taught photographer and would rather be no place else than right here in South Carolina's Low country taking photographs. Michael has a gifted eye for capturing the beauty and uniqueness in the things that most of us take for granted. His photographs have won several local awards. He is a member of the Hampton County Arts Council and the Salkehatchie Arts Center. Susan is a juried artist at the South Carolina Artisan's Center and has become a regular exhibitor at regional art shows. Rebecca Scheffler Allendale, SC Rebecca is a student at USC Salkehatchie. She enjoys photography in her spare time. Rebecca is involved in taking care of hurt wild animals. She keeps them in her back yard and nurses them back to health. Joe Topper Allendale, SC Joe graduated from the York Academy of Art School. He set up a photography studio in Allendale. He was a photography instructor at USC Salkehatchie. After closing his studio, he worked with Allendale County EMS. Murphy Winn Estill, SC Murphy has had an active interest in nature since childhood. After retiring from the military he took a photography class. Upon completion of the course, Murphy studied everything he could find on nature photography. Murphy has won the 2009 25th Palmetto Sportsman's Classic SC Wildlife Magazine photography Contest. Pottery Trevor Foster Hampton,SC Trevor has been a potter for over 20 years. He attended the American School of Craftsmen in Rochester,NY, where he studied ceramic chemistry. After several years of teaching and running an artist co-op, he began his life's adventure of production pottery and sculptor. His inspiration comes from observing his surroundings and his studies of cultures around the world. Elizabeth started out as a high school English teacher. She became a self-taught potter when her family started increasing, so she could stay home with them. She began doing the craft show circuit. She now runs her own gallery called "The Little Red Barn" located in Barnwell, SC. Her trademark is Paw Print Pottery, named after her cats, Punkin, Magnolia, Moses, Callie and Miss Kitty. Sandra Wright Pottery, Mixed Media Walterboro,SC Originally form Chillicothe Ohio, Sandra has been drawing from the time she was a small child. Her work has won top awards in local shows, and has appeared in "The Devil's Millhopper", a poetry magazine. Her works hang in many private collections in the United States and as far away as Japan and Germany. Sandra began painting in 1977. She began making pottery in 2004. She also dabbles in wood burnishing and wire-wrapped jewelry. She has utilized her art background by teaching and now owns a screen printing business. Quilts Rose Loadholt Olar, SC Rose was born in Whit Pigeon Michigan, but she says she got the south as fast as she could. She moved to SC when she was 15 years old. Rose learned to sew in Home EC class in high school. She took a quilting course at USC Salkehatchie over 20 years ago. Since then she has become a member of the Carolina Craftsmen and Salkehatchie Arts Center. In her spare time, she likes to run marathons. Eleanor Jones Edwards Martin, SC Eleanor grew up "under" the quilt frame at her grandmother's quilting bees. Quilting was not only a tradition in her family, but also in her community. She has been quilting for 12 years. During her childhood, her grandmother taught her a lot about quilting. Since 1995, she has taken classes periodically. Her quilts are machine pieced and machine or hand quilted. She likes the idea that her quilts are "one of a Kind". She calls them "Peace Quilts- Heirlooms for Generations". She has taught photography and book arts for eight years. Her work has won numerous awards and has been exhibited in galleries and museums across the country and overseas. Along with her many other talents is soap making. Her fragrant soaps will make any bathing experience feel like a personal spa treatment. Esther Manuel Soap Maker, Quilter & Crocheter Fairfax, SC Esther was born and raised in Martin SC. When their house burned down, they moved to St. Mark, S.C. She say she is just an old time country girl who wants to keep what her mother and father taught her alive. Woodcraft Brad Brown Blackville,SC Brad's great grandmother was a Cherokee Indian. He was inspired by his heritage to make Indian artifacts. A Micmac/Cree Elder from Maine taught him the art of drum making. His ideas come from his head and he says each drum has its own soul. Louis Claytor Barnwell,SC Louis comes from a long line of artists and wood workers. He is a self-taught wood worker. Louis likes to use mostly native american wood, and does not use dyes or stains. He is a member of the American Association of Wood Turners and American Needlework Guild. Robert Cobb Barnwell SC Robert moved from Puerto Rico 21 years ago to be closer to his children. Cobb is an amateur bird watcher which is where the idea of building bird houses came from. He uses reclaimed wood and discarded furniture parts from his shop where he refinishes antique furniture. He started building the birdhouses professionally about three years ago. Each house is built to a specific size for specific birds. Dan Daubard Fairfax,SC Dan has only been practicing his craft for the past year. Ten years ago, he bought a load of wood in anticipation of working with it when he retired. Dan is originally from Kentucky, but moved here with his job. Wood-working is a family tradition. His grand-father was a carpenter and his mother was a teacher, but in the summer she built cabinets and remodeled houses. Dan's job was to follow her around and pick up the nails and straighten them out. Most of the tools Dan uses were inherited from his mother. John Flagg Brunson,SC Ben C. Pendarvis Orangeburg, SC Ben is a life-long resident of the South Carolina Low country and spent his childhood in Allendale, SC. Woodworking has been a hobby for him while he practiced medicine as a pediatrician. The hobby became serious when he discovered the lathe and became an active participant in the Palmetto Association of Wood Turners in 2000. Chip Reuis Allendale, SC Chip was born in Beaufort, SC, and raised in California. He joined the army and finally settled down in Alendale. His wood working started out as a hobby 10 years ago, and he is self-taught. He also has a background in drawing and painting. He enjoys working with his hands. Chip started out by making Adirondack chairs and donated them to the Cancer Society. When people saw them, they started placing orders for his fine workmanship. James Renew Barnwell,SC Stacy Jeanette Rohr Walterboro, SC With the desirer to find an interest that would involve her more in her husband's woodworking shop, Mrs. Rohr began searching for an outlet that would give her that tie, but would also prove self-satisfying to the artistic side of her personality. After attempting a wood carving class that put her in danger of losing her fingertips, she tried her hand at a wood-turning class in 2002. A week later she bought a lathe, encroached on her husband's workshop and has been turning ever since. Floyd & Johnnie Bodiford Blackville, SC Floyd and Johnnie are a husband and wife team who are interested in many things. Johnnie writes music and Floyd is always looking for something to create. If he is not working in his inspirational yard, he is in his shop creating such things as fishing lures and original signs. Harold Crook N. Augusta, SC Harold graduated from Washington School of Art, and also attended Rhode Island School of Design. He has been turning wood for twenty years and painting for thirty years. It takes six to eight weeks for the wood to dry and finish turning, he then paints some of them and seals them. Each bowl is unique and cannot be duplicated. Danny & Alice Curtis Estill,SC Danny is a self-taught wood worker, who learned by trial and error. He likes to make unusual things out of wood. He says when you look at his creations look for the unusual. It may be a color variation or a difference in wood grain. You never know what is hidden below the surface! Writing Brenda Smith Barnes Estill,SC Brenda was born and raised in the South Carolina Low Country. Her first novel is "Corner Drug Store". Brenda has a God-given gift for knowing and understanding people. Her other writing experiences consist of journals that she has created for her children and grandchildren. Brenda currently resides in Estill, SC, with her husband, David. She has three children and three grandchildren. James Brewton Allendale, SC James is a native of Claxton, Georgia. He is an ordained Minister and pastors Community Empowerment Ministries in Estill, SC. A Slave of Circumstance is his first book and he plans to publish a second book soon. He and his wife Margie, along with their children, Rosalyn and Timothea now live in Allendale, SC. Paul Brown III Barnwell,SC Paul was born in Kansas, but raised in Barnwell, SC. He has a talented mother who has written two books of poems. His interest in poetry began in 1985 while he was in high school. Paul tries to touch others through his poetry. He says the Lord has truly given him a gift and he is to share it with others. Ken Burger Charleston,SC Ken has been writing a nationally acclaimed sports column for The Post and Courier in Charleston, SC, for 20 years. He was born and raised in Allendale. Patricia Catoe Flint Williston, SC Patricia has always had an active imagination and writing became a natural outlet. She has been writing for over 20 years. Her goal is to bring the lives of other ethnic groups into each story line. She enjoys placing her settings in unusual places and intermingling history into the story line. Shiela Martina Walterboro, SC Shiela has been a children's librarian for over 10 years. She is a member of the South Carolina Storytelling Network.
